Hello and welcome to my blog.
I am Karen Sioson from the Philippines and I paint in watercolors. I am based in the province of Orani, Bataan. My journey in watercolor started back in college (1990s) while studying Interior Design at the University of the Philippines, Diliman. The fascination with the medium started because I was having difficulty with it. I credit learning how to apply even washes to my friend Christine Poblador. Watercolor rendering was part of the skills we had to learn for our interior design and architecture classes. My frustration with not being able to control watercolors began my obsession with wanting to learn everything about it. I learned from friends, experimentations, books, videos, etc. I collected the Artist Magazine, Watercolor Magic, and North Light books. I even took a course from North Light Art School back when they were still offering Jan Kunz' Capturing the Beauty of Flowers course. This gave me a good foundation and understanding on how to paint florals. I also developed an interest in collecting flowers, gardening, and documenting nature/rural life. Two decades have passed since, I still have not lost my fascination with this medium. I'm still studying, experimenting and have my sights on learning how to paint all subjects.
I also became a member of the International Watercolor Society, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting watercolor art.
